Position Summary:

The Maintenance Engineer works with the Operations staff to develop and schedule maintenance programs and processes for the production facility to minimize impact on production. The Engineer pre-evaluates the need for replacement parts and places orders. This individual plans for interruptions in work and develops backup plans to minimize the interruptions for the production facility.


Core Functions:

  • Responsible for providing technical and engineering expertise to the Maintenance Unit to improve the overall equipment efficiency\systems performance and reliability.
  • Responsible for anticipating future maintenance and engineering equipment need.
  • Responsible for the analysis of actual equipment design and performs failure mode and effect analysis, or formulates models to identify units posing excessive failure risks; and recommend/implement changes in design of these technologies to attaining customer-specified operational reliability levels, using reliability engineering knowledge and other technologies/techniques.
  • Initiates the development and implementation of new approaches, and maintains close communication with Engineering Department to exchange pertinent project information.
  • Develop and implement practices to maximize production equipment uptime.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to mechanics, engineers and contractors on Reliability Strategies and Technologies.
  • Writes and update maintenance procedures used to maintain GMP compliance.
  • Implement site based reliability activities to comply with Loders Croklaan’s policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • Facilitates development of maintenance strategies for all equipment.  Supports execution of RFM (Reliability Focus Maintenance) process on existing equipment.
  • Conducts FMEAs(Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) and determines the optimum maintenance practices for each major systems
  • The Maintenance Engineer provides measurements such as the proportion of work, which is planned/scheduled, emergency work, preventive maintenance condition based monitoring work, equipment uptime, overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and mean time between failures.
  • Implements maintenance program improvements for the problematic assets.
  • Planning of Maintenance Work Order efforts
    • Identify daily/weekly tasks
    • Specify parts to be included in jobs
    • Estimates the required man-hours for tasks to allow for better work order completion efficiency
    • Communicate jobs w/production on equip. availability
    • Monitor schedule compliance/job completion
    • Collects & files/ provides schematic, drawings & documentation
  • Key liaison between maintenance & engineering projects
  • Owner / Primary Planner / Gatekeeper for Unit Shutdown Preparation and Communication (progress vs. plan)
  • Coordinates all department / equipment shutdowns for scheduled maintenance
  • Key liaison between maintenance & production scheduling
  • Must comply with all safety standards or rules set forth by Loders Croklaan
  • This function schedules maintenance programs and processes for the Channahon facility to minimize impact on plant
  • Determines the effectiveness and timeliness of scheduled work along with all the required permits
  • Request quotations of materials and work by third parties
  • Orders materials and services with the agreement of the Inventory Coordinator and Maintenance Manager
  • Monitors the progress of scheduled work and provides documented updates (abnormalities vs expectations)
  • Works with Maintenance Supervisor to schedule the staff
  • Plans for interruptions in work and develops backup plans
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Works with the Reliability Engineer to integrate PM's and predictive/diagnostic work into the Preventive Maintenance Program
  • Maintenance Engineer is responsible for Food Safety and Quality by following company Quality Systems
  • Create standards for w/o completion
  • Plans & executes maintenance projects & CAR's
  • Prioritizes, plans & executes office & R&D w/o's
  • Other tasks as assigned.


Skill/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, electrical, or mechanical engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial manufacturing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Computerized Maintenance Systems, (CMMS)
  • Individual must be able to work productively within a team environment
  • Individual must be accurate and trustworthy, with a positive attitude and embracing change in a dynamic manufacturing environment
