Overview: 
Perform and coordinate accounting processes according to GAAP, regulatory requirements, and industry practices. Ensure accurate financial statements by monitoring and analyzing accounts on a frequent basis. Record journal entries, generate applicable analysis and reports. Assist with the implementation and execution of sound internal controls. 

 

Essential Functions:
• Fully participate in and support a timely and accurate monthly closing process, including preparing journal entries, performing reconciliations, and completing supporting schedules  
o Prepare and analyze mark-to-market calculations and journal entries 
o Analyze accounting results and identify, explain and communicate variances with management 
o Reconcile and analyze balance sheet accounts
• Be pro-active in providing focused analysis to provide clarity related to financial results 
• Support field locations 
• Participate in any special project work and complete in an accurate and timely manner. Accept new opportunities as they develop to learn new skills 
• Be an engaged business partner is supporting with Income Statement analysis and explanations  
• Ensure balance sheet accuracy for accounts especially in the key accounts like inventory, GR/IR, payables, etc. Provide any required reconciliation and analysis needed 
• Assist with monthly Purchase Price Variance analysis, reporting major variances to upper management 
• Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual reporting packages 
• Complete any required government reporting in a timely and accurate manner 
• Travel to facilities for additional support and training (~10-15%) 
• Other job duties as assigned

 

Skills / Experience Requirements : 
o Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
o Proficient application of management and internal controls (SOX, COSO)
o Experience with SAP or similar Enterprise software is highly desirable
o Proficient in Microsoft Excel
o Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with cross functional teams, local and division management 
o 2-5 years of experience 
o Understand apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to the commodity business
o Enhance knowledge, skills and understanding through focused learning, ask probing questions and learns from experience and applies knowledge
o Has a mindset to continuously examine processes and procedures and improve where possible
o The ability to compute and provide key information for management decision making 
o Decision support that is clear, accurate, relevant, logical and fair
o Ability to analyze and interpret data and link to concepts, patterns or trends
o Demonstrates core values and emphasizes controls culture 
o Self-motivated, proactive and demonstrates organizational commitment
