The main objective of the Manager of Corporate Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) is to lead the strategic thinking and the execution of projects aimed at evaluating or conducting acquisitions and divestitures or other major capital investments. The scope of those projects is limited to Bunge's most important targets, i.e., those that are a corporate priority or span across multiple regions. The Manager is also expected to support projects and strategy development led by regional & global teams when those are of high strategic importance for one of our value chains.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for a team player that can work with, and complement the knowledge of, other members of the Business Development team. Our team is strong in strategy, project management, corporate finance, accounting, and competitive intelligence. Ideally, the new Manager of Business M&A should bring real transaction experience, including exposure to deal structuring and negotiation.

The position is very dynamic as targets and priorities shift regularly. Therefore, it requires both the ability to execute  plans focused on specific M&A or commercial targets but also to react quickly to opportunities that present themselves unexpectedly. With this in mind, we are looking for an independent individual comfortable working on multiple projects at a time, and able to shift focus quickly as priorities change. Self-motivation and organization or essential components to ensure the flexibility to complete ever changing projects.

Ideally, the candidate would have worked in transactions in either an advisory or an execution role.

What we offer:

With a small team of professionals globally, our team is small and hierarchically flat. This allows the Manager of Business M&A not only to lead and execute entire projects but also to contribute to specific elements of projects in which all of the teams are involved.

We are also tightly connected to Business Development teams across regions and to commercial leadership. We constantly support them in the capital investment projects they lead. To do that, we deploy a service mindset; therefore, we get involved, time permitting, any time we are asked for help. This help takes multiple forms, e.g., being thought partners, developing project applications and financial models, facilitating links with banks, consulting and research firms, or other parts of Bunge.


Periodically, the team will be asked to develop strategic pathways to optimize value chains. The Manager will utilize internal and external data to develop strategic insight into industry trends, Bunge's capabilities, and competitor's capabilities; Providing concrete options that can be executed upon.

Another of our key roles is to develop materials for Board strategy sessions and evaluating options for leadership. This provides access to Bunge's top management and the Board itself.

Core Functions:

  • Global/transformational M&A: co-lead specific transformational M&A projects since inception all the way to post-merger management; ensure M&A projects are aligned with overall Company and business strategy; develop supporting materials contrasting alternative M&A strategies to support decision-making by Executive Committee and Board
  • Global M&A pipeline: maintain an updated global list of potential M&A targets by engaging local Business Development (BD) teams based upon local or global strategic intent; supplement local BD targets with global targets and local targets in businesses/markets where growth opportunities lie; ensure active deals are reflected in the capital projects pipeline and appropriately accounted for, if needed, in the capital investments forecast maintained by other members of the team; coordinate a bi-weekly pipeline updates, gauge activity in each region and discuss market developments; shape the M&A pipeline to fit Bunge's global and regional strategy
  • M&A standards: maintain and improve upon standard processes to conduct M&A, due diligence, engage banks, etc. and develop templates to facilitate the practical application of those standards; support regional BD and commercial teams and contribute to develop skills and create a unified way-of-working across Bunge
  • Competitive M&A intelligence: research and develop insights into deal activity in each of Bunge's businesses and adjacent markets deemed attractive by the company's strategy containing, e.g., motivation for each deal, multiples paid, synergies announced, activity trends, etc.
  • Building relationships: build strong, professional relationships with Bunge corporate employees and commercial teams based on trust, collaboration, and value-adding work; maintain regular interactions with investment banks and consulting firms, and attend conferences and meetings to keep abreast of M&A activity in the industry and best practices in M&A execution
  • Talent management: review credentials and interview potential candidates for the Business Development team either full time or as summer interns; engage the entire Business Development team in the recruitment process; develop a recruitment process for summer interns that improves acceptance rate and quality and serves as a tool to identify talent for the organization



  • MBA or other advanced degree, e.g., JD, relevant masters, etc.
  • 3-5 years of experience in financial valuation, project management, M&A transaction structuring and execution


  • Strategic Thinking: Analyzes and applies a broad organizational and business perspective to identify and maintain focus on key drivers of organizational performance
    • Identifies key issues and structures problem-solving process to develop solutions to those issues with team and manager help
  • Self-starter: Complete tasks without explicit instructions, providing drafts in a timely manner that can be iterated upon by team. Ability to receive critical feedback of work product and implement requested changes is a must.
  • Performance and results orientation: Maintains focus on key performance drivers, continuously improves processes, and consistently delivers results.
    • Manages projects well by completing plans for work to be done; initiates changes in approach as needed in discussion with her manager; delegates work appropriately to balance own and team's workload; communicates clearly deadlines and expectations after aligning with her manager
    • Is independent, yet communicates priorities clearly to her manager; is comfortable working in multiple projects at a time and able to shift focus quickly as priorities change
    • Possesses or develops credible knowledge/expertise in the relevant markets and geographies depending on the project; successfully draws from existing expertise at Bunge to complement own knowledge; puts findings in the context of that knowledge to develop perspectives and/or recommendations
    • Is an excellent analyst and is a good reference and coach on analytic approaches; thoroughly checks quality
  • Visioning and Alignment: Engages others by communicating a compelling picture of the future to work collectively toward common objectives
  • Synthesizes findings well and develops fact-based perspectives or recommendations based on such synthesis
  • Develops clear, well-structured documents containing a storyline that communicates the perspectives or recommendations resulting from the findings; tailors documents to target audience (Board, Executive Committee, team, etc.); checks quality for the resulting end-products to require only minor editing
