This position will participate in the safe design and construction of all projects in North America as part of the Bunge team.  The design and construction must align with strategic initiatives, and maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local code requirements in United States.  Associated work will include collaboration on detail engineering design and construction in concert with engineering and construction contractors for the successful completion of the project, utilizing a stage-gated approach.  Performs supervision and coordination of project controls activities as required, providing oversight to small and large engineering and construction management firms.  Incumbent will be responsible for some participation in all aspects of project principles, including: Project Execution, Engineering, Procurement, Project Controls, Risk, Information Management, Health-Safety-Environment, Quality, Staffing, and Operations.   Candidate will provide project controls expertise to the senior project managers while managing stakeholders across a diverse interface map.


Essential Functions:   

  • Performs complex Project Scope/Cost/Schedule Control activities including:  
  • Prepares the Work Breakdown and Project Coding Structures for control and integrity of work to be performed as defined by the contracts 
  • Contributes to the cost control, project execution plans, and business plans for the programs  
  • Accumulates and compiles accurate cost and schedule management data to prepare the project budgets and update the progress of the programs  
  • Works very closely with procurement team to ensure cost control procedures are adhered to. 
  • Participates in weekly project scope/cost/schedule reviews meetings  
  • Develops and implements a basic change management system for engineering and construction  
  • Identifies trends and deviations and recommends corrective courses of action  
  • Recommends solutions or recovery plans to scope/cost/schedule impact  
  • Oversees the proposal efforts for costing activities  
  • Engage in direct contact with other functional areas, including client and field contractors  
  • Supports the estimating efforts and information such as escalation indices, rate of exchange variation, productivity, freight, etc.  
  • Uses the Work Breakdown and Project Coding Structures to ensure that data are entered correctly into the Project costing systems in a consistent manner  
  • Assists in the preparation of cash flow and Project Income Statements  
  • Analyzes current cost trends and identifies potential problem areas  
  • Possesses strong personal computer skills and proficiency in the use of automated cost management systems  
  • Develops and tracks Risk and Opportunities Evaluations 
  • Assist in developing Construction Budgets  
  • Provides Status of Reserves and Contingencies  
  • Coordinates the review of Project Profit/Risk Analysis with management and provides status reporting  
  • Serves as Control Team Leader and provides indirect supervision to contracted Project Controls personnel 
  • Analyzes variances in cost and schedule performance against the plan, and communicates the reasons for the issuance of variance and proposed mitigation plans to Project Management  
  • Interprets contract conditions to ensure compliance  
  • Provides meaningful, accurate, historical data to the PMT and the Leadership team.  
  • Plays an active role in the development of the safety culture on the project, making safety a natural part of all work performed 
  • Reviews design scope and approach with regard to constructability and submits recommendations for change 
  • Provides input for the development of project schedules in cooperation with the construction engineers and planners 
  • During FEL stages, will create or contribute heavily to owner’s team deliverables, and will be required to both create and review project planning and engineering documents 
  • Controls project schedule and cost in concert with construction management personnel through the efficient use of all construction resources including manpower, materials, tools, and equipment 
  • Ensures that daily and weekly short-range planning is maintained down to the sub-task level 
  • Provides advice on manpower levels required to attain schedule milestones and monitors manpower levels and craft mixes to ensure conformance with the construction plan 
  • Monitors productivity and cost and implements appropriate action to maintain maximum labor productivity and cost-effectiveness 
  • Controls change/scope creep, ensuring that all scope changes are quickly and properly documented and that change orders are approved prior to the performance of work 
  • Manages the contractual commitments of contractors, including cost, quality, and schedule and coordinates their field activities 


Skills/Experience Requirements:

  • B.S/ B.E. or minimum 15 years of experience in Project Controls Positions on Projects 
    • PMP certification preferred, P.E. registration is a plus
    • 5 plus years of experience directly managing others, including plant or multi-plant operations
    • A combination of experience as outlined below in any of the following sectors is required:  Milling, Oilseed Processing, Agriculture, Biofuels, Bio-Products, Pulp and Paper, Food and Beverage, or Specialty Chemicals.  Some agricultural processing experience is required.
    • Project Management:  Candidate must have experience developing Project Charters and Project Execution Plans for projects, and then executing against them in a stage gated project management model.  Minimum 10 years of combined project management and construction experience required, including participating in multiple projects greater than $25 M TIC.
  • Project Controls:  Candidate shall demonstrate ability to provide oversight in Scope, Cost, and Schedule control on all assigned projects.
  • PMP certification preferred  
  • Strong interpersonal and team management skills preferred
  • Willing to undertake challenging opportunities in other functions of project controls and devote time for development of team/subordinates  
  • Must have solid understanding of the stage-gated process 
  • Must demonstrate ability to communicate well on all levels 


  • Full-time position, typically 40-50 hours a week, but additional hours required as dictated by demands of the project
