Position Summary:

This position supports the Asset Reliability and Reporting Optimization Program at the Delphos, Ohio plant. The primary role of the maintenance planner is to improve work force productivity and work quality by eliminating in advance potential delays and obstacles through proper planning of the required materials, procedures, and resources for maintenance work.  The planner is responsible for the planning of all maintenance work performed in the area to which he/she is assigned.  They maintain appropriate records and files to permit meaningful analysis and reporting of results or completed work. Responsible for the shipping, receiving, and issuing of spare parts from a maintenance parts storeroom.   Issue items from inventory as necessary to support the requirements.  In addition, make computer entries to document all material movements in SAP.

Essential Functions:

  • Reviews and screens each work order to see that it has been properly filled out.
  • Develops and maintains planned and predictive maintenance procedures as required. Examines jobs to be done and determines best way to accomplish the work.  Consults with requester or maintenance supervisor and/or manager when necessary.
  • Identifies and obtains (requisitions, orders, kits as appropriate and in keeping with procedures) materials, special tools, and equipment necessary to complete the work.  Determines if critical items are in stock by verifying availability with stores.
  • Estimates cost of each work order in terms of direct labor, materials required and total cost.
  • Maintains backlog files of work orders waiting scheduling in accordance with their priority limits with an estimated completion date.
  • Develops a file of standard work orders (plans) for regularly recurring repair jobs, based on historical experience.
  • Reviews with the maintenance supervisor and manager the actual labor expended versus estimated labor and material used for completed jobs.
  • Conduct informal training as required of maintenance personnel in proper maintenance procedures and proper reporting procedures and in the use of CMMS software as a maintenance tool.
  • Review all completed work orders for completeness and accuracy, updating machinery history data in the CMMS as required. Keeps Bill of Material up to date.
  • Receive and restock shelves to support a perpetual maintenance and production inventory.
  • Issue items from inventory as necessary to support het requirements of the maintenance and production departments. 
  • Keeps the inventory at a level that will allow the plant to run without interruption.
  • Complete weekly cycle counts to ensure inventory accuracy.

Skill/Experience Requirements:

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent required.
  • 2 year vocational/technical degree preferred.
  • 2-4 years’ experience in day-to-day preventive and corrective maintenance preferred.
  • The ability to read blueprints and shop drawings.
  • Proficient with Excel, Access, and SAP preferred.
  • Adequate trade knowledge to estimate labor hours and materials and to visualize the job to be performed.
  • Understanding of the proper methods to be employed in replacing or maintaining typical mechanical equipment items.  This includes, but is not limited to: Conveyors, belt and bucket elevators, flaking and cracking mills, pumps, grinders, food processing equipment etc.
  • Understanding of the proper methods to be employed in replacing or maintaining typical piping systems.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures
  • Basic computer and mechanical skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
