Position Summary:

As a plant engineer, you will provide engineering and managerial support to the Maintenance Department, Plant Manager, and others as required.  This position will require work on special projects as assigned by the Plant Manager, as well as to pursue and Implement technological advancement that will ensure maximum efficiencies at the Nipawin Location.


Core Functions:

Illustrative Duties:

  • Participate with the Plant Manager and other department Managers in planning, costing and implementing the capital budget.
  • Perform detailed engineering and management of assigned projects.  Work with outside firms, contractors, maintenance department and operations people to integrate projects with the existing facilities.
  • Carry out assigned duties on improvement of existing facilities.
  • Perform studies on existing facilities/process to find potential improvements.
  • Work with plant management on safety and environmental issues to ensure that Bunge Nipawin meets or exceeds regulatory requirements.

 Team Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to Plant Manager
  • Interrelationships: Work with Plant Manager, Maintenance Manager, Department managers, Supervisors, Maintenance staff, Contractors, Operators, and support people.

Performance Areas:

  • Accurate, timely, and safe completion of assigned studies, projects, etc.
  • Quality of finished projects.'
  • Innovation and creativity.
  • Effective reporting and record keeping of work performed.
  • Working relationships with other managers, supervisors, workers, etc.


Skill/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Training and/or experience in AutoCad, PLC systems, Process Control Instrumentation systems
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with APEG’s or eligible for registration.
  • 3+ years experience in a production environment.
  • Experience planning and implementing projects, working with contractors, suppliers, manufacturers, etc.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: materials handling, fluid mechanics, heat exchange equipment, agricultural or industrial processes.
  • Ability and willingness to work as a team member.
  • Good ability to communicate with people.
  • Well developed computer skills, familiarity with software relating to engineering.
  • Willingness to study and continuously learn new about processes, equipment and projects.
  • Ability to effectively supervise contractors and/or other staff when called upon.
  • Ability to work effectively within conflicting demands and time constraints.
