Working within the Oilseed Processing Division, this position is responsible for assisting in purchasing soybeans and canola seed, as well as trading hulls and assisting in meal for the crush plant in Hamilton.

This incumbent will work closely with the Commercial Manager and the team, providing support in executing the Hamilton crush plant strategy.  Developing strong relationships with both the trade and producer is key to this role.

 

 

Core Functions:

The merchandiser will learn and assist the group in all aspects of the business.  Duties will include:

      • Purchasing soybeans and canola seed from commercials and producers along with scheduling shipments into the plant. 
      • Keep safety as a key priority and follow all Bunge safety procedures and policies
      • Manage the Hamilton crush soy hulls position, including all trading, scheduling & inventory management. 
      • Develop producer relationships in the New York region. 
      • Execution of CBOT and ICE Futures. 
      • Enter and manage cash contracts via GTM (SAP) system.
      • Use SAP & VIM to pay freight invoices and accruals when applicable.
      • Communicate & coordinate with plants staff on scheduling, and any operational issues.
      • Management of Hamilton OPD website (setting cash bids, operating hours, any relevant info).
      • Engage customers in utilizing Bunge Services website.
      • Assist in coordination of all inbound logistics, including truck, rail and vessel. 
      • Learn all roles in the team to help with vacation coverage including meal trading and invoicing.    

 

Skill/Experience Requirements:

  • B.S. Degree in Business, Agricultural Economics or related field. 
  • Proficiency in PC applications (MS Word/Excel/Powerpoint).
  • Excellent customer service skills. 
  • Excellent communication skills are a must. 
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge quickly. 
  • Interest in commodities and financial markets.
