The Project Manager--Canada will lead or participate in the safe design and construction of both Greenfield and existing oilseeds facility projects for Bunge North America (BNA).  The design and construction must align with strategic BNA initiatives, and maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local code requirements in Canada.  Associated work will include collaboration on or leadership of in-house design in concert with engineering contractors for the successful completion of projects, utilizing a stage-gated approach.  Incumbent will be responsible for engaging in all categories of projects, including: Project Execution, Engineering, Procurement, Project Controls, Risk, Business and Commercial, Information Management, Health-Safety-Environment, Quality, Staffing, and Operations.   Qualified candidates will coordinate with other corporate and Industrial Management (IM) entities in the aforementioned categories to manage capital projects that could exceed $5 M.  Incumbent will interface with senior level stakeholders on a regular basis.  Candidate will provide project management expertise to the senior project manager while managing stakeholders across a diverse interface map. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with preparation and/or oversight of the development of design and feasibility studies for projects at BNA or greenfield facilities using a steadfast stage-gated project management approach
  • Develop and review project cost estimates and direct modifications as appropriate and required
  • Prepare and/or review budgets for expenditures on outside consulting engineers and regularly review the work of consultants
  • Review equipment specification recommendations and review construction bid packages
  • Prepare and/or review and monitor controls on scheduling and project costs
  • Prepare and/or assemble periodic project reports and engineering activities summaries for projects he/she is managing
  • Work with the Senior Project Manager to evaluate, plan and develop capital expenditure projects
  • Ensure capital and expense projects are aligned with business unit objectives and completed safely within scope, schedule and budget
  • Manage project submission process to include evaluation of projects, review of proposals and advise on project feasibility
  • Provide assistance to plant locations in identifying and developing projects resulting in added profit or cost savings
  • Ensures compliance with Bunge safety policies at all times by putting safety before profit and production
  • Lead by example to ensure that safety culture is a natural part of daily duties
  • Model and cascade behaviors supporting BNA capabilities (Operational Excellence, People Management, Business Intelligence, Customer Satisfaction, Value Chain Integration and Risk Management).
  • Communicate and model good business practices that support the company’s core values.

Required Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, or Agricultural related engineering preferred.
  • A combination of experience as outlined below in any of the following sectors is required:  Oilseeds Processing, Agriculture, Biofuels, Bio-Products, Pulp and Paper, Food and Beverage, or Specialty Chemicals.  Some agricultural processing experience is required.
  • Project Management:  Candidate must have experience participating in projects greater than $1 M TIC.  Minimum 5 years of combined project management and construction experience required.
  • Engineering:  Candidate shall have minimum 5 years of experience working with engineering colleagues across multiple disciplines.
  • Procurement:  Candidate will be required to collaborate with procurement staff throughout the project life cycle, from initial estimates through tender and final award. 
  • Project Controls:  Candidate shall demonstrate ability to control Scope, Cost, and Schedule on all assigned projects.
  • Business and Commercial:  Candidate should have experience assisting commercial and business development teams to develop financial models for projects. 
  • Information Management:  Candidate should have project experience with collaboration software applications. 
  • Exceptional verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Approximately 25% travel, often with short notice and with extended stays at BNA facilities
