Bunge North American (BNA) has an opening for an experienced Engineer in their Instrument, Controls and Electrical (ICE) team.   ICE members will have expertise in one or more of these areas with Electrical discipline preferred.  This role is based in and will focus on US sites, working closely with Canadian counterparts.  Position is a mix of project engineering, close technical support to sites and support to key business initiatives.  Project duties include the safe design, construction and startup of projects at existing sites and greenfield locations.  This role leads/collaborates in-house resources and engineering contractors to deliver projects that align with BNA initiatives while maintaining compliance with all federal, state and municipal code requirements.  Site support will cover a wide range of needs, often requiring extremely fast turnaround times.  Business initiatives will range from implementing new technologies, ongoing ICE standardization efforts and driving improvements in electrical reliability.

Essential Functions

  • Ongoing support to BNA Electrical Safety Policy, timely responses to ICE-related safety requests and site support in creating safe work plans – often driven by unplanned events during off-hours.
  • Assist with preparation and oversight of ICE project design/feasibility studies at greenfield or existing sites using a stage-gate approach. Efforts will span Oilseeds, Grain and Milling areas and others as determined by business needs.  Ensure reliability needs are incorporated in all designs.
  • Effectively manage projects to deliver objectives on-time and complete, ensuring compliance with all federal, state and municipal requirements and those of Bunge.  Includes maintaining detailed project management plans, frequent status reporting and similar communications.  Ensure turnover packages include proper documentation, training materials, recommended spare parts and suggested preventive/predictive maintenance plans.
  • Work with user community to identify, develop and implement continuous improvement opportunities which bring measurable benefits to Bunge (safety, productivity, costs and similar).
  • Improve reporting/tracking of ICE-related downtime (Planned and Unplanned).  Work with sites and BNA Reliability Team to improve visibility of TOP10 troublesome ICE assets across sites.  Ensure each site has detailed plans in place, executes tasks on time and eliminates the issue.
  • Improve reliability and reduce downtime of ICE assets through optimization and improvement of preventive (PM) and predictive (PdM) maintenance strategies.  Work with Sites and BNA Reliability to assess current strategies, identify gaps and coordinate corrective actions of Site teams.
  • Work with Site and BNA Reliability staffs to develop and manage an aggressive 3-year strategy that:  implements various Bunge4.0 technologies that have significant impacts to Reliability and Operations;  and installs Continuous Monitoring projects that protect critical path assets at priority sites.  Includes coordinating efforts with service providers, contractors as well as with local and Regional teams that manage Maintenance, IT, cybersecurity and similar.
  • Manage Root Cause Analyses for ICE-related failures and track corrective actions to completion.

 

 

Required Education/Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor Engineering degree in Electrical, Controls, Automation, Instrumentation or related Engineering Technology fields is preferred.  Alternatively, an engineering degree with heavy experience in these fields will be considered.
  • Internally driven with ability to deliver quality work in a high-volume setting.  Excellent skill at: engaging individuals and groups;  communicating appropriately at all levels;  fast-thinking/capable of answering detailed questions for areas of responsibility;  presenting, possibly with little notice;  influencing individuals and groups in situations where resistance may be high;  effectively managing a large number of diverse efforts of varying size.
  • Excellent technical skill in Electrical, Controls, Automation or Instrumentation is required.  Multi-discipline depth is strongly preferred.  Experience from hands-on work in any of the following sectors:  Power Generation, Industrial Automation Supply, Oilseeds Processing, Agriculture, Biofuels, Pulp and Paper, Food and Beverage, Packaging, or Chemicals.
  • Minimum 10 years hands-on in desired fields is required.
  • Excellent project management skills with proven ability to control Scope, Cost and Schedule.  Experience in projects greater than $50M that included significant ICE spends is preferred.  Ability to manage projects in decentralized organizations using Microsoft Project. 
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects of different scope in parallel.  Ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments and highly skilled at adapting to changing business priorities.
  • Leading or participating in Root Cause Analysis and similar methodologies is preferred.
  • Significant experience delivering results in cross-functional technical teams that work remotely.  Experience working with remote Procurement teams and with related procurement processes.
  • Proven Risk Management skills.  Ability to apply methodology at key points in project life cycle.  Capable of identifying risks, ranking each and effectively managing related mitigation plans.
  • Experienced with Microsoft products, SharePoint and other collaborative software.
  • Candidates with Electrical expertise would have experience similar to:   installing and operating Intelligent MCCs, VFDs, and soft starts;  medium voltage (600V-33 KV) and low voltage (<600VAC) equipment;  working knowledge of NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code), NFPA 70E, NFPA 70B and dust and hazardous gas environment codes 36, 61, 497 and 499;  reviewing and evaluating electrical equipment testing and maintenance reports including Dissolved Gas Analysis for transformers;  Arc Flash, short circuit analysis, and coordination studies, results and corrective actions and understanding of related methodologies/software.
  • Candidates with Instrumentation expertise would have experience similar to:   Safety Critical instrumentation (SCI), Safety Instrument Functions (SIF), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and similar;   selecting proper instrumentation based on service applications and hazardous Class 1/2  Div1/2 and non-hazardous environments;  reviewing I/O list, instrument index, control narratives,  logic diagrams, one-line diagrams, panel/hardware design, P&ID and operator interface functional outputs, functional design specifications;  application of instrumentation as it relates to Industry 4.0 initiatives (sensors, vision systems, new technology);  and development of standards, specifications and data sheets.
  • Candidates with Controls / Automation expertise would have experience similar to:  design and installation of PLC and/or DCS systems, with knowledge of Rockwell hardware/software;  reviewing and troubleshooting logic on legacy systems;  Rockwell Automation controllers;  Quantum and DeltaV platforms;  SCADA systems, developing FTView applications;  networking concepts such as IPv4 address spaces, subnetting, routing, VLANs and related troubleshooting;  server virtualization, RDS, managed switches and firewalls;  industrial network design and installation experience following ISA-95 standard;  reviewing logic diagrams, one-line diagrams, panel/hardware design and operator interface functional outputs;  and development of standards, specifications and data sheets.

 

Schedule:

Full-time position, typically 40-50 hours a week; additional hours may be driven by business needs

 

Travel:

Approximately 25-50% travel, sometimes with short notice.  Travel may be higher for short periods, if needs dictate.

 

Physical Requirements:

Walking on catwalks at a variety of heights, climbing stairs and ladders

Working at heights of up to 200 ft. with appropriate safety equipment
