A Day in the Life:
The Senior Engineering Project Manager will lead facility projects for Bunge North America (BNA). The design and construction must align with strategic BNA initiatives, and maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local code requirements. Associated work will include management of in-house design in concert with engineering contractors for the successful completion of projects, utilizing a stage-gated approach. Incumbents will be responsible for managing all categories of project principles, including: Project Execution, Engineering, Procurement, Project Controls, Risk, Information Management, Health-Safety-Environment, Quality, Staffing, and Operations. Qualified candidates will coordinate with other corporate and Industrial Management (IM) entities in the categories to manage a capital program that could exceed $50 M. Incumbent will interface with senior level stakeholders on a regular basis. Candidate will provide project management expertise with a general business acumen perspective to the business units while managing stakeholders across a diverse interface map.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Prepare and/or oversee the development of design and feasibility studies for projects at BNA or greenfield facilities using a steadfast stage-gated project management approach.
- Develop and review project cost estimates and direct modifications as appropriate and required.
- Prepare and/or review budgets for expenditures on outside consulting engineers and regularly review the work of consultants with direct reports, typically project managers.
- Review equipment specification recommendations and prepare or review construction bid packages.
- Prepare and/or review and monitor controls on scheduling and project cost.
- Assist Project Managers in problem solving and trouble-shooting as requested by BNA facilities and IM senior management
- Prepare and/or assemble periodic project reports and engineering activities summaries for the project management group under his/her span of control.
- Work with the business units to evaluate, plan and develop capital expenditure projects.
- Ensure capital and expense projects are aligned with business unit objectives and completed safely within scope, cost and schedule.
- Manage project submission process to include evaluation of projects, review of proposals and advise on project feasibility.
- Supervise staff of Project Managers, Project Engineers and Construction Managers including assignment of work, approval of expenses, authorization for travel, goal setting, performance management
- Assign engineering team and resources to projects to optimize resources and ensure required expertise.
- Develop and maximize team member capabilities by fostering an environment that identifies talent, provides ongoing coaching and feedback and creates opportunities for growth and development.
- Provide assistance to plant locations in identifying and developing projects resulting in added profit or cost savings.
- Model and cascade behaviors supporting BNA capabilities (Operational Excellence, People Management, Business Intelligence, Customer Satisfaction, Value Chain Integration and Risk Management).
- Communicate and model good business practices that support the company’s core values.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering required; Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, or Agricultural related engineering field is required. Master’s degree a plus
- A combination of experience as outlined below in any of the following sectors is required: Milling, Oilseed Processing, Agriculture, Biofuels, Bio-Products, Pulp and Paper, Food and Beverage, or Specialty Chemicals. Some agricultural processing experience is required.
- Project Management: experience developing Project Charters and Project Execution Plans for projects, and then execute against them in a stage gated project management model.
- Minimum 10 years of combined project management and construction experience required, including participating in multiple projects greater than $25 M TIC.
- Engineering: minimum 5 years of experience managing engineering across multiple disciplines.
- Procurement: manage procurement staff throughout the project life cycle, from initial estimates through tender and final award. Familiarity with contract administration/review experience is essential.
- Project Controls: demonstrate ability to provide oversight in Scope, Cost, and Schedule control on all assigned projects.
- Risk: experience analyzing project risks and managing risk throughout the project. Formal training in risk management is a plus.
- Business and Commercial: experience working with commercial and business development teams to develop financial models for projects. Front end project development and appraisal experience required.
- Information Management: project experience with client portal/document management systems and/or collaboration application software.
- Health-Safety-Environment: 10 years of experience managing these key project categories directly or indirectly on projects. Asset-based experience and knowledge in NFPA 61 is a plus.
- Quality: keen understanding of the intricacies of the Engineering and Procurement workflow on major projects, and some experience with Quality audits of such is preferred.
- Project Staffing: designing organizational charts for projects and demonstrate knowledge of required staffing in a stage gated major project approach.
