Position Details:
The Boiler House operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Normal hours of work will be 8-hour day shift Monday to Friday when on maintenance and 12-hour day shift when training for Shift Engineer.
You may be asked to cover vacations, and this may require working on a rotating 12-hour shift basis with days being 07:00 to 19:00 and nights being 19:00 to 07:00. Shift schedules may change on a frequent basis as required by the business needs.
A Day in the Life:
The position requires a conscientious person in the areas of operational procedures, quality control & testing, good manufacturing practices (GMP), reporting, safety, personal appearance, cleanliness & housekeeping.
What You’ll Be Doing:
The area of responsibility includes the boiler operation which includes:
- Water treatment
- Three water tube boilers & two coil tube boilers c/w economizers
- Three diesel generators, 2.25 MW each
- Steam distribution systems and condensate collection systems
- The compressed air system which includes air compressors, air dryers and receivers,
- All fire protection systems including the main plant fire panels, north property fire panel, the diesel fire pump house and all sprinkler standpipes as well as the emergency generator system.
In addition, this position is responsible for administering first aid for all personnel on site.
This position is also responsible for answering their phone for after-hours communications and emergency purposes.
Skills/Experience Requirements:
- Minimum Fourth Class Power (Operating) Engineers Certificate.
- Written and passed their Third-Class Power Engineers exams and just require approximate one month steam time needed to obtain their Third Class certificate.
- Third year students requiring steam time towards their Second class will be considered.
Start Date:
- May 5, 2025 upon passing criminal back ground check and medical.
- This is a term position that the expectation for the 2nd year student to return to school in September 2025
