Global Procurement Category Manager – Capital Projects (CapEx)
This position reports to the Global Procurement Category Lead – Capital Projects within a centralized procurement organization. The primary responsibility is to develop and lead global sourcing strategies for given set of CapEx categories in the space of equipment, construction, and engineering services.
This role involves developing sourcing strategies, managing key contracts, leading complex sourcing initiatives, and collaborating closely with internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure capital are delivered efficiently, within budget, and aligned with overall business objectives. The ideal candidate will leverage market insights, data analysis, and strong negotiation skills to drive value, optimize total cost of ownership (TCO), and ensure compliance with procurement policies. CapEx procurement experience in the space of Utilities (Boilers, compressors etc.), and General Contractor will be preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Category Strategy & Execution
- Lead development and implementation of CapEx category strategies in alignment with global sourcing objectives.
- Conduct market analysis, benchmarking, and supplier evaluations to identify sourcing opportunities and drive cost competitiveness.
- Manage / support end-to-end sourcing processes for equipment and construction/engineering services, from RFQ to negotiation and contract award.
- Ensure adherence to category strategies and procurement governance across all projects.
- Monitor category performance and identify opportunities for value creation and continuous improvement.
- Procurement Operations
- Lead sourcing events for assigned CapEx projects in close coordination with project teams and engineering functions.
- Negotiate commercial and contractual terms with suppliers to optimize total cost of ownership (TCO) while ensuring quality and delivery commitments.
- Coordinate supplier qualification, technical bid evaluations, and risk assessments.
- Support contract drafting, execution, and lifecycle management in collaboration with Legal and other internal partners.
- Drive Best-Cost Country Sourcing (BCCS) initiatives where applicable.
- Project & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary procurement point of contact for specific capital projects categories.
- Ensure procurement activities are delivered on time, within budget, and in full compliance with company policies.
- Liaise with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Project Management, Operations, Finance, Legal) to align project / package deliverables and manage issues or escalations.
- Track supplier performance metrics and support corrective actions where required.
- Integrate sustainability, safety, and quality objectives into sourcing decisions.
D. Analytics & Continuous Improvement
- Leverage spend data, market intelligence, and cost models to support sourcing decisions and business cases.
- Utilize tools such as SAP, Coupa, Power BI, or Tableau for spend visibility and reporting.
- Contribute to procurement process optimization, standardization, and best practice sharing within the global team.
Functional / Business and Communication skills
- Support category strategies through benchmarking, market analysis, supply/demand dynamics, and cost evaluation to enable sound, economically driven business decisions.
- Apply financial and industry data with strong business acumen to assess organizational strengths and weaknesses, and develop effective strategies, including capital budgeting, financial modeling, and cost management.
- Exhibit strong communication, presentation, and influencing capabilities, with proven ability to engage and collaborate with senior leaders and C-suite executives in diverse, multicultural settings.
- Demonstrate excellence in stakeholder engagement and change management within complex, multi-site manufacturing environments.
Qualification / Experiences
- Bachelor’s degree (Mechanical, Chemical, Civil or Industrial Engineering) or equivalent by experience. Added Business education is preferred.
- 6+ years of progressive experience in global procurement, category management, or a related supply chain function, with significant experience in capital projects (CapEx).
- Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment, ideally with technical knowledge of equipment and processes.
- Demonstrated history of developing and effectively setting and executing strategies that yield year-over-year productivity across geographies and businesses
- Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools such as Tableau, Excel, Power BI, SAP, Coupa etc. to drive smart business analytics.
- Expertise in drafting and negotiating supplier agreements and framework contracts.

- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required. ~20%.
- Key internal customers: Project Procurement, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Global Industrial Operations, Global Procurement Excellence (GPE), Technical Working Groups, Engineering Value Center (EVC), Global Project Management.
