A Day in the Life: 

The Chief Operating/Power Engineer role will manage the staff and physical assets of the steam, utilities, fire suppression and water treatment systems at the Facility.  As a member of the plant management team, the Chief Power Engineer has ownership of the Utilities department performance, organizational decisions, continuous improvement, and safety culture. With focus on the boiler room, the Chief Power Engineer will ensure safe and efficient operation of steam generation, preparation and implementation of capital and expense projects, and collaboration with all plant departments.

 

What You’ll Be Doing:  

  • Provide reliable generation of steam for consumption by other departments.
  • Operate and maintain water treatment systems for the boiler and cooling tower make-up water including microfiltration and reverse osmosis membrane facilities.
  • Operate and maintain effluent treatment systems for the plant including DAF, aeration, and retention lagoons.
  • Maintain plant water supply, portable radios, sewer systems, HVAC systems and fire protection systems.
  • Provide supervision and training for the operators and staff of the utilities department.
  • Planning of annual maintenance shutdown work related to boiler equipment reliability and regulatory compliance, fire protection maintenance, sewer and water systems maintenance, water and effluent treatment equipment service and compressed air equipment.
  • Participate in project planning for equipment replacement, upgrade, rebuilds and repairs and work towards reducing overall site energy costs.
  • Full knowledge of and compliance with related Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Ability to read and understand written manuals, drawings, work orders, etc.
  • Prepare and forward Utilities month end report before noon of the first day of every month.
  • Ensure compliance with Bunge safety & environmental policies by all employees, contractors and visitors
  • Manage all environmental programs and work with environmental contractors.
  • Update emergency measures plan, safety and boilers manuals as necessary.
  • Maintain adherence to divisional and corporate environmental policies and procedures.
  • Keep management informed of changes in policies both governmental and within Bunge along with keeping management informed of issues within the plant.
  • Participate in the Supervisor on call schedule to provide off shift and weekend supervision to the entire Harrowby facility.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Skill/Experience Requirements:

  • 3rd Class Power Engineer Certification.
  • Demonstrated success in the application of safety standards, compliance with safety regulations, and the promotion of a safe working environment.
  • Proven and demonstrated leadership and management skills within a team-oriented environment.
  • Water treatment and water chemistry knowledge.
  • Good working knowledge of PC applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and SAP.
  • Ability to manage projects related to the maintenance and upgrade of equipment listed under “Main Functions”.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience with the mechanical process equipment, process automation systems, boilers, electrical distribution systems, plumbing and instrumentation.
  • Preferred qualifications include 3-5 year of operations experience in the food industry.
