A Day in the Life:
The Quality Assurance Coordinator is responsible for conducting internal food safety and quality system audits to ensure compliance with company standards and procedures within Bunge Grain Handling operations
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Conducts internal audits of the Viterra Food Safety & Quality System program and processes within specific operations to ensure compliance to company policy, food safety certification standards and basic food safety and quality principles. This includes verification of effective corrective action for continued compliance to the Food Safety & Quality System program. Provides support to sites subject to third party audits including the certification body, and at times, regulatory and customer audits as needed. This includes the monitoring of audit follow-up activities to ensure corrective actions are effective. Work in conjunction with third party auditors during the external audit process as representatives of the company.Assists in the development and implementation of Viterra Food Safety and Quality System program to achieve compliance to quality and food safety standards including ISO 9001, ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, GMP+B3, regulatory requirements from Canada (CGC, CFIA), US (USDA, FDA) and other countries.
- Prepares audit reports from internal audits which document an audit score, evidence of compliance and assist with establishing corrective action for non-conformances issued. Internal audit scores are used to measure Viterra’s overall performance on compliance to the program.
- Provides support to operations when significant contamination events occur to ensure risk is mitigated.
- Trains, advises and makes recommendations to operations staff on the requirements of the program. Provide resources for self development of staff to ensure established training requirements are maintained. Conducts presentations as necessary at facility, market center and regional levels to communicate program enhancements and requirements.
- Liaises as necessary with corporate functions, facility staff, merchants, market center managers, region managers, operations managers to ensure effective communication of requirements and compliance to established standards. This can include the need to facilitate meetings and coordinate conference calls regarding matters relating to the Food Safety and Quality Systems program.
- Maintains and updates established HACCP Plans within business units for compliance to changing requirements. This includes the verification of critical control point procedures and parameters for compliance as per established food safety program requirements.
- Facilitates HACCP Team Meetings as required for significant process or equipment upgrades within country operations to ensure potential risks are identified and relevant controls are in place.
- Ensures compliance to specific end-use customer requirements and contractual obligations through the internal audit process.
- Assists with the completion and response to technical questionnaires including supplier approval/verification questionnaires from end-use customers, consulting with Market Centre Managers and merchants as, well as legal when needed.
- Provides technical support and training on system databases used to support the Food Safety and Quality System.
- Supports sites through internal and external customer complaints and issues.
- Participates in market centre and region conference calls to provide progress reports and deliver updates on food safety and quality system requirements. Available as a resource to answer food safety related queries.
- Assists with special projects, including: risk assessments and the research required to conduct these assessments; manual and document reviews and revisions; maintenance of OurPlace content; acquisition program implementation; SRM responders for access to Notes applications such as Incident Investigation, Merchant Authorized Program Tracking, Shipping Instructions and Operations Planning and the development of training and resource tools.
- Provides input to management review of the program through trending of audit and other issues and facilitate sharing of best practices that can result in cost saving and efficiency. Provide input to the corrective actions taken to address systemic issues.
- Proactively seeks new, updated and amended food safety legislation and regulatory requirements to ensure continual compliance for Viterra.
- In conjunction with the Manager, Quality Systems and Food Safety develops plans to improve quality performance.
- Performs other duties as required.
Skills/Experience Requirements:
- Minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience in the grain industry including HACCP-based Food Safety Programs.
- Bachelor of Science and/or HACCP/Food Safety Training certification.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience that result in the required level of knowledge skill and competence will be considered.
- Requires a multi-disciplinary knowledge of all facets of the grain handling business.
- ISO 22000 Internal or Lead Auditor training is an asset
- Excellent computer skills in a windows environment
- Have a valid driver's license and willing to travel
