Overview
The Global Applications Security Specialist demonstrates a high level of professionalism, leveraging in-depth expertise in application security and a solid understanding of broader cybersecurity disciplines to adapt departmental plans and recommend optimal solutions and best practices within the Cyber Security Engineering & Automation function.
This individual contributor role operates with limited supervision, managing application security programs, processes, and initiatives independently. The Specialist makes tactical decisions within established policies and broad procedures to achieve enterprise security objectives.
They are responsible for executing core application security activities that enable secure software development and protect enterprise applications globally. This role actively contributes to small to medium-sized projects of moderate complexity and supports continuous improvement of application security practices.
The Specialist performs a variety of complex tasks requiring deep analysis, helping deliver solutions to advanced application security challenges where standard precedents may not exist.
Main Accountabilities:
- Manage application security initiatives, processes, and assessments independently with limited supervision, following functional policies and broad procedures while selecting appropriate tactics to meet established goals.
- Execute core application security activities to achieve key security outcomes across global application portfolios.
- Participate in small to medium-sized projects of moderate complexity, contributing to enhancements in application security processes and secure development practices.
- Apply in-depth knowledge of application security principles and working knowledge of related cybersecurity domains to adapt departmental plans and recommend optimal solutions and best practices.
- Perform complex and non-complex tasks involving detailed analysis to identify vulnerabilities and support solutions for sophisticated application security challenges.
- Conduct application security testing, including SAST, DAST, SCA, and manual secure code reviews, ensuring remediation of identified vulnerabilities.
- Integrate security controls and practices into the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and DevSecOps pipelines.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to development teams on secure coding, architecture, and remediation strategies.
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and enhancement of application security frameworks, tools, and processes.
Education / Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) with 6–9 years of relevant experience in application security, secure software development, or cybersecurity, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge and Technical Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of application security principles, OWASP Top 10, secure coding practices, and threat modeling.
- Experience with application security tools such as SAST, DAST, SCA, IAST, and API security testing tools.
- Strong understanding of SDLC and DevSecOps integration, including CI/CD security controls.
- Proficiency in scripting or programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript, .NET, PowerShell) for automation and analysis.
- Familiarity with modern application architectures (e.g., microservices, APIs, containers, serverless).
- Experience integrating AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, code generation tools) securely within the SDLC while ensuring compliance with secure coding standards.
- Experience leveraging AI-driven security tools for vulnerability detection, code analysis, threat modeling, and anomaly detection.
- Knowledge of identity and access management, data protection, and compliance requirements impacting applications.
- Ability to analyze complex application environments and support remediation strategies.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders globally.
