The primary function of this position is to ensure the integrity and safety of food products throughout the manufacturing process utilizing various standards and established testing methods, operating procedures, and adherence to protocols and policies. A critical goal of this function position is to support and assist the Quality Assurance Department and Management Team in all aspects to drive the continuous improvement of quality in the Bunge Decatur, AL plants. Provide leadership and technical support with an emphasis on consumer requirements, continuous product quality improvement and productivity.


Essential Functions:

  • Maintain a safe work environment for all employees
  • This position involves a combination of visually monitoring various aspects of plant operations, or physically obtaining samples and testing in the Q.A. Lab
  • Trained to conduct sanitation inspections on a pre-operational basis
  • Perform all applicable analytical tests on raw ingredients, in-process and finished products
  • Prepare testing solutions, equipment calibrations, general maintenance and upkeep of laboratory
  • Assist in identifying and managing HOLD products and the rework process
  • Monitoring and validation of HACCP and all quality check points
  • Assist in implementation of procedures, protocols and policies, and monitoring for compliance.
  • Perform data entry on QA database and assist management in data trending.
  • Identify quality, procedure and policy deviations; effectively report such deviations and provide accurate information in a timely manner and as needed
  • Participate in our continuous improvement plans
  • Provides technical assistance to production personnel as needed
  • Other duties deemed necessary by Quality Assurance Manager.
  • Daily oversight and supervision of laboratory personnel with focus on overall lab safety & efficiency.
  • Responsible for Lab proficiency & Quality Assurance (QA) of the plant.
  • Responsible for the direct management and development of the lab technician team
  • Insure Good Laboratory Practices are carried out (CQA 310__good Laboratory Practices and Policy)
  • Scheduling of daily and weekly lab work assignments and vacation/holiday planning of lab personnel
  • Communicate with department supervisors all results related to product analysis, quality and laboratory operation.
  • Maintain all laboratory documentation.
  • Works with customers as needed by business in coordination with sales, technical service, product development and other special request.
  • Insure Customer Complaints (CRM) are investigated/resolved in a timely manner
  • Manage the Pest Control Program as required.
  • Manage lab supply program
  • Manage the Lab Waste Disposal
  • Obtain necessary certifications to complete assignments (SQF, HACCP, PCQI)


Skill/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor or Associates Degree in Science with some QA experience preferred, but equivalent QA Experience will be equally weighed
  • Experience and technical skills in all areas of Quality Assurance within food and beverage manufacturing environment with a minimum of one-year experience
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Sound decision and teamwork skills are essential. Detail oriented a must!
  • Computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheets
  • Provide a safe work environment through auditing of working conditions
  • Familiar with GMPs, SOPs, and FDA regulated environment
  • Ability to follow written procedures and established test methods
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Must have the ability to work with diverse groups of people with varying levels of education, expertise and backgrounds
  • General knowledge of production processes, food lab instrumentation, laboratory test methods
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and have good organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to perform office and data entry work
  • Ability to perform some physical lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Must be willing and able to work shifts, nights, and week-ends based upon department/plant needs.
