Under moderate supervision but working in a matrix-based organization, this position will collaborate and partner with facility management, HR centers for excellence and the US field HRBP team to deliver generalist support and services with a high level of integrity and compliance. This position performs professional level HR activities to develop, implement, and administer human resources policies, programs, and procedures. Responsible for employee relations and labor relations activities to promote positive employee experiences. The Sr. HR Generalist is the first line of HR support for facility management and employees.


This position will partner with business leaders to maximize productivity, improve employee engagement, ensure compliance with Bunge policies and procedures, promote Bunge’s core values and capabilities, and minimize legal risks to the company by ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. 


This position will be based in Bunge’s Modesto, CA facility and support other West Coast locations routinely from Modesto.  Anticipated travel is approximately two days per month. 


 Core Functions:

  • Champion and support personal safety and champion Bunge’s robust safety culture.
  • Support Regional HR Manager and facility management by providing a full range of Human Resources services including, but not limited to, policy and procedure consult/ implementation, staffing and talent acquisition, performance management, training and development benefits inquiries, and coaching, and directing employee inquires to subject matter experts including but not limited to health and welfare. 
  • Assist supervisors and managers to answer employee questions.
  • Assist employees with questions related to company policies, payroll, benefits.
  • Responsible for ensuring HR compliance activities are completed timely and accurately.
  • Maintain all confidential employee files and data.
  • Responsible for completing accurate data transactions to HRIS.
  • Participate in management meetings and communicate HR updates.
  • Interprets various routine HR plans, programs, policies, and procedures for employees and provides advice and recommendations to facility management. 
  • Assists with administration of policies and procedures, state and federal regulations and corporate objectives.
  • Maintain an awareness of workforce demographics and operational requirements. 
  • Assist the Regional HR Manager in developing strategies to address workforce gaps and surpluses and proactively work to assist in the optimization of talent.
  • Lead hourly employee recruiting from requisition through onboarding.  Partner with talent acquisition on the same process for supervisory and management positions.
  • In partnership with employees, explore concerns and issues to achieve resolution.
  • At the direction of Legal and Regional HR manager, assist with investigations related to potential policy violations, misconduct, or other circumstances that may result in disciplinary action.                                                                                                                                     
  • Maintain HR generalist expertise through ongoing self-education and practical application of HR-related initiatives.
  • Assist facility management with facilitation of employee engagement surveys, analysis and action plan development and execution.
  • Support HR centers of excellence at the facility level with annual performance management program, succession planning, employee development, and workforce planning.
  • Assist with special projects as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Skill/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive human resource generalist/business partner experience in a manufacturing/production environment.
  • Expertise in California employment laws including but not limited to leaves, wage, and hour.
  • Ability to maintain objectivity and discretion with confidential information.
  • Exceptional customer service and team building skills.
  • Excellent communication and training facilitation skills with the ability to interact at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross functional HR team members while following processes and procedures.
