The Merchandiser will support the commercial team with meal sales and logistics and be responsible for coordinating truck and rail shipments to customers and warehouses.  Duties will also include processing sales orders and responding to customer inquiries in a timely, efficient, and proactive manner, using each customer contact as an opportunity to display Bunge’s commitment to provide excellent customer service.


Core Functions:

  • Ensures compliance with Bunge safety policies at all times by putting safety before profit and production
  • Lead by example to ensure that safety culture is a natural part of daily duties
  • Assist in the selling of soymeal, canola meal and hulls as per established basis, crush plan, and meal position
  • Receive rail scheduling from meal customers and coordinate rail shipments with the crush plant; work as a liaison between the customers and crush plant
  • Contract and pricing entry; execution of CBOT futures to hedge corresponding sales
  • Ensuring inventory issues at the plants and warehouses are addressed, in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner
  • Daily review of each customer’s contract position and proactively advise customers of their impending delivery requirements to meet contract commitments.
  • Generate invoices; prepare and review sales reports.
  • Responsible for fostering and growing customer relationships along the value chain; from producer to end user
  • Monitor customer credit limits and account receivables, working closely with the credit department
  • Manage and monitor HACCP, GMP certification requirements
  • Identify and execute on trading opportunities that exist in marketplace for associated products and logistics that touch both Eastern Canada and the United States
  • Customs Compliance – understand the management of national and international freight movements and the regulatory environment affecting these movements
  • Understand and assist with the meal clam process
  • Stay informed of the Ontario meal market and surrounding trading areas to enhance trading decisions
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends and holidays when required or requested
  • Other duties as required


Skill/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Business, Business, Finance or an applicable related field is required
  • 2+ years’ experience in a sales related environment, with a demonstrated aptitude for superior customer service preferably in meal trading or physical commodities trading
  • Extensive knowledge of hedging on the Chicago Board of Trade, grain and meal contracting, and futures hedging
  • Inventory management is an asset
  • Knowledge of foreign exchange and how those changes in the CAD/USD can impact pricing
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and maintain flexibility in a fast-paced, changing environment is critical
  • Exceptional communication (verbal/written) skills with ability to interact effectively with all levels throughout the organizations is required
  • Excellent customer service and negotiation skills is required
  • Proficiency with applicable computer software packages, including Microsoft Word and Excel is required
  • Unrestricted cross-border mobility.
  • Valid driver’s license
