BUNGE has an exciting opportunity available for a Controller – Western Europe. In this role, you will Lead the accounting, reporting, and controlling functions as well as internal controls and compliance for Western Europe (Spain, Italy, France, Netherlands, Portugal). This includes the financial reporting for US GAAP & local statutory reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Note: you are ideally located in Barcelona to obtain this job, however, we will also consider relocations.

Our future colleague will promote a control-oriented environment, that balances risk management and compliance requirements with continued support of our strategic and operational objectives, and this role will partner with the business to ensure that our results are analyzed, and opportunities and risks are identified to support our goal to continually improve business results.

 

 

Main responsibilities:

 

  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP and Local accounting practices.
  • Manage the activities of Western Europe entities Controlling teams in countries and BBS to ensure consistency of the financial statements, management reports, systems, and controls. 
  • Lead the month, quarter and year-end financial close and reporting process for the different entities, including reviews of all aspects of the accounting and controlling.
  • Ensure the accuracy of all monthly financial statements and quarterly and year-end reporting packages for all entities.
  • Improve and standardize reporting activities, in alignment with other Destination Crush offices and global initiatives.
  • Cascade BG policies governing how assets are safeguarded and records are maintained and ensure we have a strong control environment.
  • Manage the relationship with Global Internal Audit, monitoring the resolution of audit recommendations and reviewing audit reports prior to issuance and providing timely feedback regarding potential internal controls issues therein.
  • Liaise with external auditors, as required, to monitor the overall audit process, address audit requests in a timely, efficient and consistent manner, and ensure that any findings are adequately addressed to mitigate risk.
  • Partner with Finance Partners, Commercial and IT teams to provide business enhancing solutions and reporting that facilitates optimal decision making to maximize results.
  • Participate in the business planning and forecasting process to launch and maintain a zero-based-budget across the market, as well as helping to ensure that financial projections are properly reported and in line with global, regional, segment and market requirements.
  • Supporting the Controller, T&M and DCVC and in-house US GAAP technical experts to research and accurately advise on technical accounting issues related to strategic transactions, including major capex, business combinations, financial instruments and other complex areas.
  • Partner in developing a strong Controlling organization, building team resources that are trained and equipped with the appropriate skills and competencies to achieve high performance in our financial reporting, control, and business partnering roles.

 

 

We are looking for different skills in our ideal candidate:

 

  • Degree in Economics or equivalent, qualified accountant or equivalent.
  • Overall +/- 10 years of experience, including 5 years in a similar function, before this. Knowledge of risk management.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS, SOX (incl. process review, testing & documentation).
  • Exposure to industry and trading business, risk management & Strong desire to learn the business.
  • Good communication, Ability to work effectively & push for change in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to structure and manage complex processes. Able to cope with changing environment and priorities.
  • Hands on, Pragmatic and, a doer more than an advisor, able to translate theoretical knowledge into business reality.
