Position Summary:
This role is based in Washington, D.C. and is focused on influencing and monitoring federal and state/provincial policies for the North America region.  This position will include engaging with government officials on key issues impacting Bunge’s business.  It will involve extensive interaction with industry associations and various stakeholder groups.  

 

The position requires thorough analytical skills to assess key risks and opportunities presented by government action.  The agriculture and food industry is constantly changing and the challenges presented by governments can arise suddenly - this role requires attention to detail and excellent communication skills in a fast-paced environment.  A willingness to learn and understand the global agribusiness system, and what type of government actions impact the system, is a high priority for this role.

 

Building relationships with internal stakeholders is the foundation for success in this role.  Understanding the business needs of internal stakeholders drives the focus of the government affairs function.  The role requires building relationships with Congressional offices, Administration officials, and key state government officials. There is considerable interaction with trade industry and stakeholder groups.

 

Core Functions:

  • Federal affairs lobbying
  • Industry and stakeholder group engagement    
  • State/provincial affairs lobbying    
  • Internal communications (e.g. Government Affairs newsletter, memorandums, etc.)    

 

Skills/Experience Requirements:
Bachelors degree required
5-6 years of experience in Public Policy/Government Affairs/ Industry relations; 
Preferably 5 years of experience working in a Congressional office, government office or corporate affairs 
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; writing sample required.
Understands government legislative and regulatory processes.
Knowledge of global food and agribusiness industries a plus.
Willingness to work in a team environment.
Domestic travel up to 15% of the time.
