As Researcher Product and Process Development you will be actively involved in performing research & analysis in innovation/customer projects, finding solutions, solving problems and continuous improvement.
By obtaining this position, you will become a part of the Innovation group within Bunge. The Product Development department in our factory in Wormerveer is responsible for among other things, developing new products and introducing continuous improvement on products & processes and their quality.

What will you be doing?
The main responsibility of your future role is the (re)formulation and development of ingredient solutions for Bunge’s customers in variety of categories like bakery, (infant) nutrition, plant-based foods, culinary and personal care. These solutions are mainly lipids based (oils, fats, lecthins) and require the optimization and reformulation of existing products, as well as the design of solutions that are new to the world. Following or even defining new (food) trends poses new questions for the ingredient’s suppliers. Our EMEA Innovation team works closely together with colleagues around the globe to find solutions that will satisfy our customer’s needs. Troubleshooting and improvement projects are also part of our interesting and challenging portfolio of innovation activities.

This is how you will divide your time:
70 % of the time

  • (Re)Formulation of innovation projects - Defining, executing, and contributing to projects involving literature study, planning, and execution of practical laboratory work (chemical/enzymatic modifications, separations);

20% of the time

  • Project Management - designing and developing new production routes based on, for example, lipids fractionation and modification technologies. Supporting the scale-up of these technologies towards pilot and production scale trial runs (inspection plans, data analysis);
  • Reporting of results in various tools (CRM, written reports);

10% of the time

  • General lab duties - supporting good housekeeping by maintaining and improving safety and cleanliness of laboratory;
  • Ideation of new ideas.

Who are we looking for?
Most important to mention is that you enjoy laboratory work as much as the desk work. As a true innovator, you are flexible and proactive when it comes to the work you deliver. Your diligent approach and execution of the projects and related tasks in terms of preparation and reporting does not go unnoticed in your surroundings. Besides being able to work independently, you are a real team player with strong communications skills used while interacting with many different stakeholders. Certainly, you can deliver on multiple activities at the same time and use your creativity to help others and improve daily work.

Otherwise, you have previously obtained:

  • 4+ years of experience in a similar role. PHD counts as experience;
  • A Master or PhD degree in Organic Chemistry, Food Science, or related discipline;
  • Experience with modeling and affinity with data science is an advantage;
  • Knowledge of fats/oils modification (chemically, enzymatically) and separation technologies is a big plus;
  • Fluency in English language (verbal and written).
